The problem
Reduced funding
- In October 2010, local authorities were informed that they would face an average loss of grant from central government of 7.25% in real terms in each of the next four years.
- Many local authorities made the first year’s savings from headcount reductions, which was a hard but relatively simple thing to do. This is represented by the blue 11% segment
Next challenge
- Now the challenge is to sustain those savings and find much more in each of the next three years.
- Our proven Hidden Value solution (see http://socialcare.charteris.com/) provides a very quick and effective way of starting on this work.
- Once this is done there is no further savings potential so an adult social care director will need to look more deeply for the next round of savings.
“The larger but more difficult opportunities come from questioning afresh the cost base for these services depicted by the pink and purple segments. We have discovered considerable waste through over-delivery in these areas, and consequent room for savings whilst improving outcomes for customers”
